A father left 17 camels for his three sons as a treasure.
After the death of their father, the sons opened their father’s will.
Father's desire says elder son should take half of 17 camels, second son should take 1/3 of 17 camels and the youngest son should take 1/9 of 17 camels.
As 17 cannot be divided in 2 or 3 or 9, the sons started fighting.
So they decided to go to a sage.
The sage listened their problem patiently. He thought for a moment and said that he wishes to donate 1 camel to their family. This brings the total of camels to 18.
Now he started to read their deceased father's will.
Half of 18 = 9, so he gave his eldest son nine camels.
1/3 of 18 = 6, so she gave his second son 6 camels.
1/9 of 18 = 2, so he gave 2 camels to his youngest son.
Now add: 9 + 6 + 2 = 17 which leaves the donated camel spare, the sons gave it back to the sage.
Moral of the Story
The attitude of negotiation and problem solving is to find the 18th camel i.e. common ground. Once you find that 18th Camel, the problem is solved. Sometimes it's hard. But the first step to finding a solution is to believe there is a solution. If we think there is no solution, we will never find a solution!
